New Route Between Kaunas and Riga.

Latvia's national airline, airBaltic, has announced the launch of a new flight route between Kaunas and Riga, set to begin in March 2026.

The route is expected to provide Kaunas residents and the surrounding area easy access to the airline's extensive network, which currently includes more than 80 destinations across Europe.

The flight between Kaunas and Riga is anticipated to take just 50 minutes, making Riga a key transit hub for travelers from the Kaunas region.

Kaunas, Lithuania's second-largest city, is becoming increasingly important in the fields of economy, technology, and local tourism.

The introduction of the direct flight to Riga will connect its inhabitants directly to Latvia's capital, Riga - one of the most impressive cities in Northern Europe, known for its picturesque old town, Art Nouveau architecture, and rich cultural life.

From there, passengers will enjoy convenient connections to major European cities, including Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, London, Vienna, Zurich, and more.

The flights on the new route will be operated using airBaltic's advanced fleet of Airbus A220 aircraft, all equipped with Starlink's high-speed internet. This ensures a modern, comfortable, and accessible flight experience, even on short trips.

Expanding Operations Including Direct Route to Israel

With the launch of the new route, airBaltic will serve all three of Lithuania's main airports: Vilnius, Kaunas, and Palanga.

Lithuania has long ceased to be a destination only for history or roots enthusiasts. In recent years, it has become one of the surprising stars on the European tourist map. Vilnius has been recognized as one of Europe's best cities for young people, with vibrant nightlife, a developing cultural scene, and endless green spaces. Alongside other cities, especially Kaunas, Lithuania offers a surprising blend of young, safe, and welcoming atmosphere, giving Israelis good reason to praise it, with high accessibility and direct flights offering fresh experiences with every visit.

As part of its expansion, airBaltic also resumed direct flights to Israel last Thursday, with a direct route between Tel Aviv and Riga, an important connection linking Israel with the Baltic countries and offering convenient logistics to destinations across Scandinavia and Northern Europe.

airBaltic's move in Kaunas signifies further consolidation of the company's position as a bridge between Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Europe.

Overall, Lithuania has gained strong momentum in recent years, becoming one of the most desired and pleasant locations to live. Additionally, Israir operates three weekly flights to the capital Vilnius, and the Israeli tourism company Overseas operates flights both to Vienna and Kaunas as well.

Kaunas is receiving a significant upgrade in its status on the regional aviation map, and local, business, and tourist passengers will enjoy an easier, faster, and broader connection to all of Europe.
