Air Canada announced today (September 9, 2025) the launch of a new direct route between Montreal and Palma de Mallorca, set to begin operations in June 2026.

This marks the first international route launched as part of the introduction of the company's new fleet of Airbus A321XLR aircraft, expected to join the fleet in the first quarter of that year.

The airline, which had suspended flights to Israel, will operate four weekly flights until the end of October 2026. This is the first-ever route connecting Canada to the popular Spanish island in the Mediterranean, known for its beaches, history, and culture.

Mark Galardo, Vice President of Commercial and President of the Cargo Division at Air Canada, stated: "The arrival of the A321XLR aircraft marks a revolutionary phase in the growth of our international operations. With the extended range and innovative product offered by the aircraft, we are opening destinations that were previously unattainable. Palma de Mallorca is the first destination illustrating the new opportunities this fleet brings."

The A321XLR will be the first narrow-body aircraft in the company's fleet featuring lie-flat seats in business class (14 seats), alongside 168 seats in economy class - accommodating a total of 182 passengers. The new design will mark the beginning of an advanced standard in Air Canada's flight experience.

Besides the new route to Mallorca, the A321XLR aircraft will also be deployed on existing routes: Montreal-Toulouse (year-round) and Montreal-Edinburgh (seasonal), both resuming operations in 2026 with the new product.

Subsequently, as the company acquires up to 40 additional aircraft of this model, it plans to open new routes from Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax.
