The busiest U.S. airport for international freight and the second busiest for international passengers, Miami International Airport (MIA), has been recognized as North America’s most improved mega airport for customer satisfaction.

The airport, which serves as a critical gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, saw its overall score go up 24 points in J.D. Power’s latest North America Airport Satisfaction Study, now in its 20th year.

Moreover, overall passenger satisfaction ratings, including ease of travel, trust in the airport, and terminal facilities, among others, went up 10 points in 2025.

MIA moved from 10th to 8th place among the continent’s busiest airports, based on 30,439 surveys completed by U.S. and Canadian travelers who visited at least one airport between July 2024 and July 2025.

The airport’s improvements came even as it handled 3.5 million more travelers than the previous year, reaching nearly 56 million passengers in 2025, marking a third consecutive record-breaking year.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava: “I am thrilled to see that the unprecedented investments we have made to transform the customer experience at MIA — from facility upgrades to increased workforce — are making such a strong impression on our visitors”.

The airport’s rising reputation is further bolstered by awards this year, such as Global Traveler magazine’s Best Airport for Layovers and Food & Wine magazine’s Top 10 U.S. Airports for Food and Drink.

Much of this success aligns with MIA’s $9 billion Modernization in Action (M.I.A.) Plan, which includes the fresh reopening of two renovated moving walkways, the replacement of over 200 escalators, elevators, and moving walkways, and upgraded key facilities. Concourse K is scheduled to open in 2029.

Michael Taylor, MD of travel, hospitality, and retail at J.D. Power: “While the annual growth rate in passenger volume seems to be leveling off, we’re still seeing record numbers of travelers pass through the nation’s airports, and, for the most part, they are enjoying the experience”.
