Shocking social media footage. Shaking houses, bouncing cars, and shattering windows. That's the gruesome reality that the people in eastern Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula area woke up to in the early hours of September 19, when they were hit by a 7.8 magnitude quake, exactly one month after a 7.0-magnitude quake.

According to the United States Geological Survey, while the epicenter was located far from densely populated areas, about 1,400 kilometers from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in eastern Russia, it was felt strongly in many regions.

Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for the eastern coastline of Kamchatka. The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center updated that there is no threat or tsunami warning for other areas.

Local media reports indicate that volcanic activity also began as part of the event at a volcano on the peninsula.
