U.S. Airports: Operations to Continue Despite Government Shutdown, Delays Expected
Amid concerns about a possible federal government shutdown in the U.S. set to begin on October 1, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), which operates Reagan National and Dulles airports, announced that passenger operations will continue as usual.
In a statement released last night (Tuesday, September 30), it was confirmed that non-federally funded services like parking, restaurants, kiosks, customer service, and safety, will not be affected by the shutdown and will continue to operate as scheduled. Additionally, it was emphasized that essential federal services, including security checks, air traffic control, and customs, will continue to operate normally.
According to guidelines from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), other airports across the U.S. are also expected to continue normal operations, though delays and disruptions may occur due to staffing shortages. Furthermore, plans for recruiting and training air traffic controllers might face delays.
Therefore, passengers are advised to check their flight status with the airlines and prepare for potential longer wait times at airports.
