Munich Airport hit by drone activity. Late last night (October 2, 2025), German air traffic control (DFS) temporarily halted operations at Munich Airport.
The incident began at 10:18 PM when numerous drone sightings were detected by airport systems, mostly within an hour. As a result, 17 flights could not depart from Munich last night, affecting nearly 3,000 passengers.
Munich Airport, in collaboration with airlines, provided immediate assistance to passengers in the terminals. Camp beds were set up, and blankets, beverages, and snacks were supplied. 15 flights en route to Munich were redirected to Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna, and Frankfurt.
According to Munich Airport's statement, passenger safety is a top priority when a drone is spotted. Reporting chains between air traffic control, the airport, and police authorities have been established for years. However, the airport emphasizes that incident handling is the police's responsibility.
Before Germany: Drones in Northern Europe
As previously reported, drone incidents over European skies are increasing. Airports that closed last month due to mysterious drones include Denmark, Norway, and Lithuania.
Estonia filed a complaint with the UN, pointing a finger at Russia, claiming responsibility for sending drones. In last week's UN assembly in New York, it was stated that Russia is "testing the limits of its capabilities in Europe."
