New York Braces for Powerful Storm: Hazardous Winds, Flooding, and Heavy Rain

New York's Emergency Department has issued an unusual warning ahead of extreme weather set to hit the city and Long Island from Sunday to Monday morning

Storm Approaches New York: Intense Winds, Coastal Flooding, and Heavy Rain Expected Until Monday.

New York City Emergency Management (NYC Emergency Management) announced today (Friday, October 10) that it is closely monitoring the powerful storm expected to hit the city starting Sunday and lasting until Monday morning.

According to the announcement, particularly intense winds are expected in the eastern part of the city and Long Island, which may cause significant damage, alongside strong winds in other parts of the region.

Additionally, extensive flooding of mild to moderate severity is expected along the entire coastline.

It was also reported that prolonged rain is expected, with amounts between 1.5 to 3 inches, and even more near the coast. Localized flooding and drainage issues may occur.

Emergency authorities are urging residents to prepare accordingly:

  • Update the family emergency plan
  • Prepare an emergency kit and essential supplies at home
  • Sign up for the city's NotifyNYC alert service by texting notifynyc to 692-692

Authorities emphasize avoiding coastal or flooded areas and following official updates throughout the weekend.
