Photo: Brian Jason / Shutterstock.com U.S. President Donald Trump has issued an unusual and strong statement criticizing China for what he called 'an aggressive and inconceivable step in international trade.' According to Trump, China has sent an official letter to the world declaring that starting November 1, 2025, it will impose broad export restrictions on almost every product it manufactures, as well as on products not made by them.
'This impacts all countries, without exception, and is a move planned by China years ago. It is an unprecedented step in international trade and a moral disgrace in relations with other countries,' wrote Trump.
In a post on his social network Truth Social, Trump emphasized that the U.S. would respond with severe countermeasures, including:
- A 100% tariff on all Chinese products, on top of any existing tariffs.
- The imposition of new export restrictions on critical software starting November 1.
'Based on the fact that China has taken this unprecedented stance, and speaking solely for the United States, from November 1, 2025, the United States will impose a 100% tariff on China, in addition to any tariffs they currently pay. On that same date, we will also impose export restrictions on all critical software,' wrote Trump.
He further added, 'It is hard to believe China would take such a step, but they have, and now this is history.'
Trump's announcement joins a wave of increasing tensions in Washington-Beijing relations, which may exacerbate pressures on global supply chains, raise market prices, and elicit further responses from other countries affected by the restrictions.
