During the attack, the bus driver was killed by a stone thrown at the vehicle.
Meloni released her official statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday evening (October 20, 2025), expressing shock at the severe incident and describing it as an "unacceptable and sheer madness" act. She extended condolences to the victim's family and expressed solidarity with the victims and witnesses of the tragic event.
She stated that she expects law enforcement to quickly identify and prosecute those involved in the act.
Giorgia Meloni wrote: "Terrible news leaves me speechless. The attack on the bus of Pistoia basketball fans, which claimed the life of a driver hit by a stone, is a violent, unacceptable act and sheer madness. I express my deepest condolences to the victim's family and my solidarity with those present at the disaster. I trust that those responsible for this cowardly and criminal act will be quickly identified and brought to justice."

The association's official statement said: "A driver was killed by a stone thrown at a bus full of fans. An absurd death, the result of hatred and inhumanity. Anyone who loves sports cannot turn a blind eye. This is not cheering, this is barbarism."
