Budapest International Airport (BUD) is set for an unprecedented winter, offering a record 8.9 million seats, which marks a 12.5% increase year over year.
Its network now spans 182 routes, including 26 new destinations. This surge places BUD among Europe’s fastest-growing airports and strengthens its role as a leading gateway to Central and Eastern Europe.
According to airport management, this impressive development is attributed to the synergy between VINCI Airports' global strategy and the increasing demand for European destinations outside the traditional tourist season. "Budapest is transforming from a regional hub to a significant player in our international network," stated VINCI. "This growth supports both Hungary’s inbound tourism and business activities."
More Seats, More Connections
This year's BUD data highlights a focus on connectivity, which does not solely aim for new destinations but also increased flight frequencies to popular destinations in Europe and the Middle East. This offers travelers better connection options, shorter layover times, and a broad flight schedule that allows for flexible planning, whether it's a short weekend getaway or a business trip.
Driving Tourism and Business Growth
The increase in seat capacity is also expected to support the ongoing rise in tourist traffic, a sector Hungary has been heavily investing in over recent years, while also encouraging foreign investments and new business relationships. "A strong airport is truly an economic engine, and Budapest consistently realizes this potential.", noted officials from the Hungarian Ministry of Transport.

The current expansion marks a continuation of positive trends for BUD, following 2024, when the airport almost reached pre-pandemic activity levels.
Forecasts suggest that 2026 will be the strongest year in the airport's history, both in passenger numbers and the volume of international connections.
Budapest is also gaining a reputation as one of Europe’s most attractive short holiday destinations, offering affordable prices, vibrant cultural life, and an accessible city center. This appealing combination attracts airlines to increase frequencies and add destinations, with confidence in stable demand throughout the year.
