Berlin police arrest Syrian youth on suspicion of preparing a severe act of violence. Collaborating with special units under the supervision of the general prosecutor, city police arrested a 22-year-old Syrian on Saturday (November 1, 2025) in Neukölln on suspicion of preparing a severe act of violence endangering the state and spreading prohibited terrorist propaganda materials.
According to authorities, the investigation accuses the suspect of promoting ISIS ideology and planning a jihadist-motivated attack using improvised explosive/incendiary devices he intended to build himself.
During raids at three locations in Neukölln and Köpenick, forces seized components needed for building a device or incendiary tool, as well as electronic storage devices, which were transferred for forensic and cyber expert analysis.
The police stated that the suspect had allegedly already acquired several items intended to establish the improvised device.
Additionally, the prosecution accuses the suspect of repeatedly distributing “Nasheeds,” a cappella songs used in a jihadist context for incitement, sentiment, and mobilization, on social media. Many of these segments are spread by official ISIS media arms and other foreign terrorist organizations.
This morning, at the request of the Berlin general prosecutor, the suspect was brought before an investigating judge at the Tiergarten local court to issue an arrest warrant.
The judge granted the request, ordered detention until the end of the proceedings, and the suspect was taken into investigative custody. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
