Severe disruptions to rail operations in Britain, after a train derailed in the west of the country today (October 3, 2025) in the morning hours.

According to the official announcement from the West Coast Main Line network, which operates as part of British National Rail, the train derailed in the area of the village of Shap for a reason that remains unclear.

The incident was reported by the engine driver, who also stated that there were no injuries and that the passengers were safely disembarked. British National Rail said that further details would be provided as they become clearer.

Following the unusual event, as mentioned, the circumstances of which are being investigated and are not yet clear, there are severe disruptions on some railway lines in Britain, especially between Preston and Carlise, a relatively central line in the west of the country.

British Rail advises passengers to check their journey with the train company or British National Rail before setting off. "We deeply apologise to passengers whose journeys will be affected, and appreciate your patience until the line reopens. The safety of our passengers and staff is our top priority."
