Driver Rams Into Pedestrians and Cyclists in France, Two Seriously Injured

A car driver crashed into pedestrians and cyclists at two locations on an island in western France this morning. Five people were injured, two of them critically. Local police arrested the driver

A serious hit-and-run incident occurred this morning (Wednesday, November 5) on the island of Oleron in western France, when a car driver hit several pedestrians and cyclists.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that two of the victims were critically injured, and at least three others were injured to varying degrees. However, according to local reports, the number of injured is higher.

The incident occurred in two separate locations, in the towns of Saint-Pierre d'Oleron and Dolus d'Oleron. The driver was arrested shortly afterwards by local police. Several French media outlets reported that the driver shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the attack.

Interior Minister Nunez added, "An investigation has been opened. At the request of the Prime Minister, I am on my way to the scene."
