Unusual Incident: A person's body was found in the landing gear of a plane in Hawaii.
The body was found in the landing gear of a United Airlines plane after it landed at the Kahului Airport in Maui, Hawaii.
Officials in Hawaii are investigating the unusual case where a body was discovered in the landing gear of the American airline's plane that flew from Chicago to Maui on Christmas Eve.
"Upon arrival at Kahului Airport in Maui, Hawaii, last Tuesday, a body was found in the landing gear of one of the main landing wheels on United Airlines flight UA202, operated by a Boeing 787-10 aircraft," the airline noted in a statement to Passport News.
"Since the landing gear is accessible only from outside the plane, it is currently unclear how and when the individual accessed it. The airline is cooperating with law enforcement authorities in investigating the case," added United.
Hiding in a plane's landing gear is the most common method used by stowaways. Often, these individuals are crushed when the landing wheels retract, as there isn't much space; in many planes, the space is even smaller than a car trunk.
