Air India has announced the cancellation of several flights after initiating careful inspections for aircraft flying over geographical areas affected by the Hayli Gubbi volcanic eruption. More flights may be canceled in the future.
According to the company's statement, ground crews at various airports are updating passengers in real time, providing immediate assistance, including hotel accommodations if necessary, and working on rebooking passengers on alternative flights as soon as possible.
The company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers, noting it is an unexpected and uncontrollable situation, stating: "The safety of passengers and crew is our top priority," according to Air India's management.
Yesterday, the company warned about the consequences of the volcanic eruption. In a statement from Air India, it was noted: "Following a volcanic eruption in Ethiopia, ash clouds were observed over certain geographical areas. We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in constant contact with our team. We will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft. Ground crews will continue to support passengers and update them regarding their flights."
