FlyDubai Suspends Flights to Russian Cities After Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crash

The Emirati airline suspends its flights to Sochi and Volgograd in Russia for a week. This decision comes after Azerbaijan's aviation authority suspended flights to 10 Russian destinations due to "safety concerns," alongside EL-AL's announcement of suspending flights to Moscow for a week due to "developments in Russia's airspace."

PassportNews has learned that starting from yesterday (December 27) FlyDubai suspends its flights to Russian destinations for a week.

The Emirati airline decided to suspend flights to Sochi and Volgograd following the plane crash of Azerbaijan Airlines last Wednesday, which led to additional flight suspensions "due to safety concerns."

FlyDubai has halted flights to these two destinations in Russia for a week starting from yesterday (December 27) and will then make a decision based on risk assessment.

It should be noted that the airline will continue to operate its flights to other destinations in Russia, including Moscow (VKO), a key destination for the company.

Yesterday (Friday) Azerbaijan Airlines reported that starting today, December 28, 2024, flights from Baku to eight airports in Russia will be suspended following a decision by Azerbaijan's civil aviation authority.

The destinations where flights from Baku have been canceled are: Mineralnye Vody, Sochi, Volgograd, Ufa, Samara, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladikavkaz.

It should be noted that EL-AL also issued an unusual announcement yesterday (December 26, 2024) stating "In light of developments in Russia's airspace, the company is suspending its operation on the Tel Aviv-Moscow route for the coming week."
