.Incident During Takeoff
On the evening of December 28, a loud noise was heard during the takeoff of KLM flight KL1204 from Oslo to Amsterdam.
In response, the flight crew made the decision to divert the Boeing 737 to Sandefjord Airport as a precautionary measure. Upon landing, the aircraft veered off the runway into the grass at low speed. Fortunately, all 176 passengers and 6 crew members on board were unharmed and received immediate care.
KLM ensured the well-being of its passengers by transporting them to Oslo via bus later that evening. Hotel accommodations were provided for those in need. An additional KLM aircraft will arrive in Oslo this afternoon to transport passengers to Amsterdam, with assistance available both at Oslo Gardermoen Airport and upon arrival in Amsterdam.
A technical team from KLM, in cooperation with local authorities and Sandefjord Airport, will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. This investigation, conducted in accordance with standard aviation procedures, aims to determine the cause of the loud noise and subsequent events. Efforts to retrieve the aircraft are also underway.
KLM Spokeman said that the Company "expressed gratitude for the calm and cooperation demonstrated by passengers and crew during the incident and remains committed to their safety and comfort".
