Congratulations to Larnaca, one of Cyprus' leading tourist cities, which will be the European Capital of Culture in 2030.
The Larnaca Municipality praised the announcement in a special media post: "Today is without doubt a historic moment for all who believed in the vision of a more humane, inclusive, and sustainable city. This victory belongs to the hundreds of co-creators, artists, organisations, citizens, sponsors, and teams who joined forces, sharing ideas, time, care, and love for their place."
Greetings to the Neighbors
Larnaca also congratulated the neighboring city that was not selected. "We wish to warmly congratulate the Limassol team for the fantastic work they have done. We thank them for being a wonderful partner who, through their example, inspired us and made us better. We hope that all this important work will continue to inspire and enrich Limassol."
Incidentally, this is not the first time that Cyprus has presented a tourist city as the European Capital of Culture. In 2017, Paphos, the southwestern city of Paphos won the title and introduced a series of artistic and cultural programs that brought significant improvement to the city's appearance.
The choice of Larnaca, even though it will come into effect in four years, may lead to similar results, improving the visibility of the city, which hosts the island's main international airport, currently undergoing a significant upgrade on its way to becoming a significant international aviation hub.
Cyprus, which places significant emphasis on recycling, fuel, and other solutions to protect the planet, is already considered one of the "greenest" countries in Europe. Limassol was named "Greenest City in Europe" last year.
