A historic moment for Vietnam's tourism industry.
For the first time ever, the country is expected to cross the 20 million international tourist mark in a single year. A grand ceremony to mark the occasion is expected to be held today (Monday, December 15) at Phu Quoc Island International Airport, led by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the An Giang provincial government and local tourism authorities.
As part of the event, the three passengers who break the record, the 19,999,999th, the 20,000,000th, and the 20,000,001st, will receive festive recognition and special gifts symbolizing Vietnam.
The ceremony will take place on the island of Phu Quoc, which in recent years has become one of the leading destinations for tourists worldwide, thanks to its white-sand beaches and relaxed tropical atmosphere.
Vietnam According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Tourism, about 19 million tourists visited Vietnam from January to November 2025, an increase of more than 20% compared to the same period last year. High demand during the winter season has strengthened forecasts, and for the first time in the country's history, the 20 million tourist mark is expected to be broken before the end of the year. "In the past year, we have experienced a significant increase in the number of international tourists, including from Israel," Tân Lê, a local tour guide, told Passport News. As a tour guide, I feel firsthand the new energy that the increase in the number of tourists brings to Vietnam. The increase in tourism fills the local community with a sense of joy and renewal, and opens up the opportunity to share experiences and stories with people from all over the world." The arrival of the 20 millionth tourist symbolizes the return of the Vietnamese tourism industry to track, and for the first time the country will surpass the record figures of 2019.
As mentioned, the official ceremony is expected to take place tomorrow in Phu Quoc, but the identities of the three tourists who will be honored have not yet been announced.
