This was updated this evening (1.1.25) in a special announcement by the Foreign Ministry, stating that the Israeli Consulate in Houston, Texas, is handling the incident and a consulate representative is on the way to New Orleans, likely to the hospital where the injured are admitted. No further details were provided about the identity of the Israeli injured.
According to reports that are becoming clearer as hours pass, the attack, in which ten people were killed and approximately 35 were injured, was carried out by a commercial vehicle. The identity of the assailant has not been published yet.
The vehicle attack occurred around 03:15 AM, in one of the main celebration areas of New Orleans, Louisiana, where many had gathered to mark the New Year.
The mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell, declared the event a "terror attack." Later, it was reported that outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with the Governor of Louisiana and offered federal assistance.
Louisiana police have closed large areas around the attack scene in New Orleans for investigative actions.
