Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism recently announced the launch of a new check-in technology for hotels and vacation rentals. The system, based on biometric and digital technologies, will allow guests to complete the entire registration process before arrival, eliminating the need for a physical check-in at the reception desk.

The new technology is readily available for immediate implementation through various independent vendors. According to Dubai's official announcement, the new development will enhance the guest experience, increase hotel operational efficiency, and strengthen Dubai's position as a leading global tourism destination, in line with the goals of the "D33" economic agenda, which focuses on digital development and smart city initiatives.

With the new system, guests will only need to upload their identification documents and biometric data once directly from their mobile phone. The data will be stored securely and remain valid until the identification document's expiration date, such as a passport.

For return visits to Dubai, only a quick verification, such as facial recognition, will be required. Upon arrival at the hotel, you can bypass the traditional check-in process and start your stay immediately.

Are Biometric Car Rentals Next?

Dubai notes that repeat visitors account for almost a quarter of all annual visits to the city, and the new biometric solution is designed to provide them with a faster and more convenient arrival experience, while strengthening their connection to the destination. In addition, the system is designed to integrate easily with existing hotel apps and websites.

Beyond its use in hotels, the solution also enables expansion into other tourism areas, such as car rental, to create a continuous, personalized visitor experience throughout the city. The move joins other smart technology initiatives in Dubai, including smart crossings at Dubai International Airport, which have reduced border inspection times to a few seconds.

There are currently 820 hotels and aparthotels operating in Dubai. In the first ten months of 2025, Dubai recorded 15.7 million tourist overnight stays, 5% more than the same period last year.
