The city is beautiful year-round, but becomes even more so during the Christmas season, when it is adorned with millions of lights, turning it into an architectural masterpiece covered in colorful jewels. If you're ready to book a trip and explore a variety of markets selling gifts, tasty food, and aromatic drinks, here are some top recommendations.

Plaza Mayor Christmas Market

This is Madrid's classic and oldest market, featuring hundreds of stalls selling decorations, nativity figures, and holiday gifts. Open until December 31.

Plaza de España Christmas Market

The festive market has its own ice skating rink and plenty of food and gift stalls, and live music. Open until January 6, 2026.

Mágicas de Navidad - Torrejón de Ardoz

A huge, well-designed Christmas park about half an hour from Madrid with markets, lights, ice slides, and activities for the whole family. Open until January 6, 2026.

The traditional light show held in the Botanical Garden in Madrid is called “Naturaleza Encendida.” This year, organizers have announced a change of location to Seville, Cordoba, and Zaragoza. For the official website of the show, click here.

The Fountain of Dreams

The Madrid Botanical Garden is also hosting another Christmas event this year, called El Origen de la Navidad - El Manantial de los Sueños, an experiential event with lighting, displays, and festive decor.
