Official Confirmation from Ankara: Libyan Army Chief's Plane Crashed in Turkish Skies

Drama in the skies over Turkey: A Falcon 50 aircraft, which was on its way to Tripoli, attempted to make an emergency landing at Ankara airport, but lost contact and crashed. The aircraft was found in the airport area with five passengers on board, including the Libyan Chief of Staff

Another crash, in one of the most difficult years for aviation safety.

The remains of a plane that took off from Ankara airport on the evening of December 23, 2025, en route to Tripoli, Libya, were found by Turkish military forces not far from the Ankara Esenboga Airport. The plane carried five passengers, including the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Armed Forces, General Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad.

According to known details, at approximately 6:52 p.m. GMT, the Falcon 50 business jet bearing tail number 9H-DFJ that was flying over Turkey lost contact.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the plane took off from Ankara airport at 6:10 p.m. GMT heading for Tripoli, Libya. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff, but contact with the plane was lost, and authorities later found the wreckage of the crashed plane.
