Aviation drama on the way to the leaders' summit in Davos: The US president's Air Force 1 plane made a U-turn and returned to its home base, Andrews.

The incident occurred shortly after takeoff from Washington. White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt reportedly told reporters who were with Trump on their way to Switzerland that the 747 was forced to return to base due to a "minor electrical issue" on the plane.

This is a rare malfunction on a plane considered the safest and most well-equipped in the world. According to protocol, the flight code "Air Force 1" was changed to an alternative plane (a Boeing C-32, converted from a 757), and Trump departed for Davos shortly after returning to Washington.

It should be noted that the current official Air Force One (a Boeing 747) used by the president has been the presidential plane since the 1990s. This year it is scheduled to be replaced by a new model.
