Disaster in Central Greece: 3 Dead and Several Missing in Factory Fire

The circumstances of the large fire that killed at least three workers at a factory in the city of Trikala are still unclear. Several injured people were evacuated from the scene for medical treatment and there is concern for missing people. 53 firefighters worked at the scene, and suspicion of arson is being investigated

At least three people died early this morning (January 26, 2026) in a fire that broke out at a factory in the city of Trikala in central Greece.

According to official reports from the Hellenic fire services, there is suspicion of arson, which is being investigated as part of an effort to understand the factors that led to the fire at the scene. Greek media are reporting that there are concerns of additional missing persons in the incident, as well as a number of injured people who were evacuated from the scene for medical treatment.

According to a statement from the fire services, "We received a report of a fire that broke out in a business in the Megalon Klivia district of the Trikala municipality early this morning. 53 firefighters in 16 fire engines and reinforced teams from across the region took part in the firefighting operation, while two water tankers from the Trikala district assisted during the incident."

As mentioned, the fire services reported that three bodies were found, with concern that additional missing people were injured in the fire.

Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman, Hellenic RepublicPaulus Marinakis, said they were "shocked" by the tragic accident in Trikala, while sending their thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims, as well as the missing and the injured.

The Parliament Speaker announced the cancellation of events planned for the rest of the day due to the disaster in Trikala.
