Illustration of a Beechcraft aircraft. Photo: Shutterstock The Colombian airline SATENA issued an official statement today (Thursday, January 29, 2026) following a fatal plane crash that occurred in northern Colombia.
According to the information provided to the company, a Beechcraft aircraft, bearing registration HK-4709 and operating flight number NSE 8849 on the Cucuta Oceania line, crashed in the rural region of Corasica in the municipal area of La Playa de Belen.
The plane was operated by charter company SEARCA and had 13 passengers and two crew members on board. All passengers and crew members perished in the incident, which authorities are calling a fatal accident.
SATENA said that the company is working in coordination with the authorities and is providing its resources for humanitarian assistance to the families of the deceased, as well as for investigating the circumstances of the accident.
Among the 15 people killed in the crash of the SATENA flight on the Cucuta Oceania route was Diogenes Quintero Amaya, a sitting congressman and representative of the CITREP Special Transitory Peace Electoral District.
Quintero Amaya is a well-known figure in the Colombian public arena. He previously served as a municipal official in the city of Cari, as a regional minister in Oceania, and as a public envoy who promoted human rights in the Catatumbo region, from which he came. In addition to his public activities, he was an active member of the Youth Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and took part in various parliamentary initiatives.
The disaster also claimed the lives of other passengers, including public figures and social activists, and led to a wave of mourning and condolences from political figures and state authorities.
The names of the other passengers who died in the disaster are: María Álvarez Barbosa, Carlos Salcedo, Rolando Penaloza Gualdron, María Díaz Rodríguez, Maira Avendano Rincon, Anayisel Quintero, Karen Parales Vera, Anirley Julio Osorio, Gineth Rincon, Natalia Acosta Salcedo, Maira Sánchez Criado and Juan Pacheco Mejía. The crew members who perished are Captain Miguel Vanegas and Captain Jose de la Vega.
