Berlin's airport closes the year with a sharp rise in passenger numbers.
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) ended 2024 with significant growth in its operations, totaling approximately 25.5 million passengers, an increase of 10.4% compared to 2023.
The growth was led by low-cost airlines Ryanair with an 18.4% increase compared to last year and a total of 5.2 million passengers, and easyJet showing a 5.7% increase with 4.1 million passengers.
Eurowings also recorded a decent growth of 11% with 2.1 million passengers, while the Lufthansa Group continued to lead with the highest total number of passengers, reaching 5.7 million.
The peak day at the airport was September 27, when 99,579 passengers passed through, most of whom arrived to participate in the Berlin Marathon held during these days.
Cargo activities also presented impressive figures, with a 30% increase in annual cargo volume, totaling 44,300 tons.
In December 2024, the number of passengers was 1.94 million, a 10% rise compared to December 2023.
The airport's CEO, Aletta von Massenbach, commented on the findings and noted: "Overall, we are pleased with the development of traffic in 2024. Connectivity and passenger traffic at the airport have surged significantly despite the challenges in the market. Continued growth in 2025 heavily depends on the general conditions for aviation in Germany. To ensure the expansion of connectivity for all passengers, competitive conditions that allow us to continue to grow are required."
