Southwest Airlines is taking in-flight connectivity to the next level with Starlink, SpaceX’s low-Earth-orbit satellite internet system. The airline plans to roll out the service across its network in 11 countries, giving travelers reliable, high-speed WiFi for streaming, messaging, gaming, and work.

“Free WiFi has been a huge hit with our Rapid Rewards Members, and we know our Customers expect seamless connectivity across all their devices when they travel,” said Tony Roach, Executive Vice President, Chief Customer & Brand Officer at Southwest Airlines. “Starlink delivers that at-home experience in the air, giving Customers the ability to stream their favorite shows from any platform, watch live sports, download music, play games, work, and connect with loved ones from takeoff to landing.”

The rollout will start this summer with the first Starlink-equipped aircraft. The airline plans to install the system on more than 300 planes by the end of 2026 as part of its fleet upgrade to high-speed satellite technology. Starlink’s network consists of more than 9,000 satellites, providing consistent coverage and high speeds while supporting HD streaming, real-time messaging, and large-file uploads in seconds.

“We're thrilled to deliver a connectivity experience to Southwest Airlines and its Customers that really is similar, if not better, than what you can experience in your own home,” said Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX. “Starlink is the future of connected travel, making every journey faster, smoother, and infinitely more enjoyable.”

The airline is already the largest US carrier to provide free WiFi fleetwide to loyalty members through T-Mobile. Starlink will be another step in enhancing the cabin experience, alongside new RECARO seats, in-seat power, larger overhead bins, seatback device holders, and upgraded boarding and Extra Legroom experiences.
