Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and other Kenyan airports are seeing operations gradually return to normal after a two‑day strike by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) ended on Tuesday. According to a post on X by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), KAWU has signed a return‑to‑work formula that allows airline and airport services to resume nationwide.

The strike started earlier in the week, disrupting flights at Kenya’s busiest aviation hub and forcing airlines to adjust schedules, cancel departures, and extend delays. Thousands of passengers faced uncertainty as some flights were delayed by a few hours while others failed to depart on time.

In its announcement, KAA said that operations are now “normalizing across all airports,” and encouraged travelers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.

Kenya Airways, the national carrier, also issued an update, saying it is in the process of restoring scheduled and on‑time operations, with normal flight patterns expected to resume within 24 hours. The airline has been working closely with airport authorities to clear backlogs and help passengers rebook or adjust travel plans where needed.

The strike was reportedly triggered by older issues between KAWU and the KCAA regarding collective bargaining, working conditions, and the implementation of previously agreed terms.
