The move marks the beginning of a large-scale expansion and modernization project, estimated at approximately one billion euros over the next 10 years, one of the most significant investments in the aviation sector in Central Europe in the coming decade.
The project's launch follows a record year with nearly 20 million passengers passing through the airport, marking a 35% increase in passenger traffic since VINCI Airports entered into an operating partnership with Hungary.

At the same time, the Hungarian government announced new transportation infrastructure to connect the airport to the city, including a direct train line and upgrades to the highway access road.
Until the new terminal is completed, adjustments and upgrades are being made to Terminal 2, including expanding the check-in area, upgrading screening systems, and adding designated lanes for passengers with disabilities, families, and Fast Track users. Area B will also be expanded to accommodate passengers from countries that do not belong to the Schengen area.
With an additional capacity of over 10 million passengers per year, the renovated airport is expected to significantly strengthen Budapest's international position and contribute to the economic and tourism growth of Hungary and the entire region.
