The Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an official warning today (Monday, February 23, 2026) to Indian citizens residing in Iran, following previous announcements published in January and in light of developments in the country.

The announcement said that Indian citizens currently in Iran, including students, pilgrims, business people and tourists, are asked to leave the country by available means of transportation, including commercial flights.

It was also emphasized that Indian citizens and people of Indian origin must exercise extreme caution, avoid areas where demonstrations or protests are taking place, remain in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran, and monitor local media for ongoing updates.

The embassy urged all citizens to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passports and ID cards, on hand. Citizens in need of assistance are also asked to contact the embassy directly.

For emergency response, the embassy has published dedicated helplines at: ‎+989128109115, ‎+989128109109, ‎+989128109102, ‎+989932179359, and by email at [email protected].

Additionally, Indian citizens residing in Iran who have not yet registered with the embassy are asked to do so via the dedicated link on the embassy's website. In the event of difficulty registering due to internet disruptions in Iran, family members in India are asked to register on their behalf.

This is not the first country to call on its citizens to urgently leave Iran amid the current situation in the country. Last Friday, Germany asked its citizens to leave Iran immediately, and the day before that, the Polish Prime Minister called on the country's citizens. Earlier in the month, the European Aviation Safety Agency extended its initial warning against flying over Iranian airspace.
