"Gate Garden", a refreshing, innovative, and sustainable concept at Varna and Burgas airports, will be launched this coming year - 2025.

This concept aims to provide a unique customer experience for all travelers and visitors, in collaboration with its commercial partners at Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, the operators of Varna, Burgas, and Sofia airports in Bulgaria.

The project includes the construction and design of unique open green spaces, characterized by an exceptionally low carbon footprint, natural ventilation, and abundant sunlight, making them unique in Europe.

Unique “Open Air Terminal” Experience

One of the standout features of the new spaces is the option to lead passengers directly to aircraft through gates in the area, allowing for enjoyment of the "open terminal" concept for a longer period.

The innovative architectural concept, noted by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, contributes to reducing carbon emissions both in the construction stages and the operation of the facilities, compared to conventional terminal solutions.

Investment Leading to Improved Passenger Experience

The investment is part of the company's commitment to develop and transform Varna and Burgas airports into modern and attractive hubs for airlines and passengers.

The new facilities will enhance the quality of service to passengers, increase flexibility in infrastructure operations under the Schengen regime, and offer diverse shopping opportunities in areas with live greenery and natural light.

Unique Scenic Experience

The new terraces are strategically located to provide a magnificent scenic experience with a central view of the runway, making the visit even more enjoyable and exciting.

International Recognition

The "Gate Garden" concept has already gained international recognition at one of the world's prestigious aviation events – the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference, held in Frankfurt, Germany. The project's design and concept received high praise and were one of the forum's highlights.

"I am very proud of this creative and innovative investment project! The idea and concept were excellently developed by our teams. The venture will enable an exceptional customer experience at both Burgas and Varna airports," said Dr. Frank Quante, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

"I believe the Gate Garden concept marks the beginning of sustainable, balanced, and human-focused architecture," added Alexander Georgiev, head of the Planning, Engineering, and Design Department at the company.

Official Opening in Summer 2025

The official opening of the new facilities at Varna and Burgas airports is planned for the start of summer 2025, the peak tourist season on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.
