Cyprus' civil defense systems went into action following the drone shooting incident yesterday at the British base in Akrotiri. Authorities prepared a reception area in Limassol (near the base) and gave clear instructions on what to do during an emergency.
In coordination with the Head of the Sovereign Base Areas (SBA), the Deputy Mayor of Akrotiri, and the SBAs of Akrotiri, preliminary steps were taken to inform the population of the possibility of evacuating to the Limassol Recruit Center, which was prepared as a temporary accommodation complex. Since the beginning of the event, employees and volunteers have been working there to help assist citizens wishing to reach the complex.
At the same time, Civil Defense teams have been deployed in Akrotiri to update residents and assist in their relocation to temporary housing. In addition, patrols and searches are being carried out in the area. Civil Defense is in constant contact with local authorities and base management.

Shelters can be located using the SafeCY app or through the Civil Defense Control Center.
If there is no shelter nearby, citizens are advised to stay indoors in a protected area at home or work, such as an underground parking garage or a room with solid walls. The Cypriot Ministry of Interior explained that staying indoors is preferable to staying outdoors.
Vitizens were also advised to prepare in advance with basic emergency equipment, including water, dry food, a first aid kit, a flashlight, batteries, a portable radio, medication, and important documents, and to follow the instructions of the authorities at all times.
