In light of Operation Roaring Lion and the security situation, the US State Department has updated its travel advisory for southeastern Turkey to Level 4 – “Do Not Travel.” However, the overall advisory for Turkey remains at Level 2 (“Exercise Caution”).
According to the official announcement, there has been no change in the overall policy towards Turkey, but the increased risk area in the southeast of the country has been updated as part of the travel warning, due, among other things, to its proximity to the border with Iran and changes in the diplomatic activity of American missions in the region.
In addition, it was reported that today (March 9) the US State Department ordered non-essential US government employees and their families to leave the US Consulate in Adana, "out of an abundance of caution."
In a statement, the State Department emphasized that the security of US citizens is the top priority of the US administration, and that the decision was made as part of an ongoing security situation assessment in the region.
