The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Ground Stop notice for all JetBlue flights last night (Tuesday, March 10, 2026), a step that led to a temporary halt to the company's takeoffs across the country. Now, the FAA is announcing the cancellation of the grounding.
The official announcement from the National Air Traffic Control Center (ATCSCC) stated that the restriction applied to all destinations (ALL DESTINATIONS) and all airports (ALL FACILITIES), with the reason given being a request from the airline itself (“JBU AIRLINE REQUEST”).
A ground stop is an exceptional measure in air traffic management in which aircraft are not permitted to take off until the restriction is lifted. The measure is usually implemented when an operational or technical malfunction necessitates a temporary halt to flight operations.
The announcement was posted on the FAA's official alert system, indicating that the grounding took effect in the early hours of the morning in Universal Time (UTC). Additional updates were then posted on the system, indicating that the incident was being handled and, as mentioned, the grounding was canceled.
JetBlue is one of the largest airlines in the United States, and implementing a ground stop for its entire fleet of aircraft could cause significant disruptions to flight schedules and airport operations across the country.
Apparently, the halt in activity is due to an operational malfunction caused by a cyber attack, but the company did not specify this.
