Deadly Bus Fire in Switzerland: Several Dead and Injured, Police Suspect Deliberate Act

The bus caught fire in the town of Kretzers near Bern; three injured people were evacuated to hospitals by helicopter and ambulances. The prosecutor's office has opened a criminal investigation

A fatal fire broke out last night (Tuesday, March 10, 2026) in a postal bus in the town of Kerzers in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland, killing several people and injuring others, according to an official statement from the canton of Fribourg police.

The incident occurred at around 6:25 PM on Murtenstrasse, after the police operations center received a report of a fire on a bus. Rescue forces called to the scene found the vehicle completely engulfed in flames, and fire crews immediately began rescue and extinguishing operations. At the same time, a security perimeter was set up around the scene.

The emergency medical response, which included several ambulances and a REGA helicopter, evacuated three injured people to area hospitals. Two additional victims were examined at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

According to the police, several people were found dead at the scene, but at this stage, the official death toll has not yet been announced.

The police stated that the fire may have been started deliberately. The investigation is ongoing, and the exact circumstances of the incident are still being examined. The local prosecutor's office has opened a criminal investigation and is conducting the examinations.
