Passengers departing from Henri Coandă (Otopeni) Airport and Băneasa Airport in Bucharest can now carry liquids of up to 2 liters in their hand luggage, replacing the long-standing 100 ml limit per container.

The change took effect on Wednesday, March 11, according to the National Company Bucharest Airports (CNAB).

“Starting Wednesday, March 11, at 00:00, new rules regarding the transport of liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) in cabin baggage have entered into force. Passengers departing from Henri Coandă Airport and Băneasa Airport can now carry liquids, aerosols and gels in individual containers of up to 2 liters, compared with the previous limit of 100 ml per container,” CNAB said in a statement quoted by AGERPRES.

According to Bogdan Mîndrescu, Director General of CNAB, the measure became possible following investments in next-generation security screening technology used for checking cabin baggage.

“These investments align the airports managed by CNAB with the best international practices in the field,” Mîndrescu explained.

He added that the upgrade is part of the company’s broader strategy to improve the passenger experience while maintaining the highest security standards.

However, the relaxation of restrictions applies only to passengers whose journey begins at these airports.

CNAB clarified that the new rule does not apply to passengers in transit or transfer, who must still follow the liquid restrictions in force at their connecting airports.

The move places Bucharest’s main airports among a growing number of international hubs introducing advanced CT security scanners, which allow security staff to analyze the contents of bags more accurately without requiring strict liquid limits.

For travelers departing from Bucharest, the change means a simpler airport experience, as they will no longer need to pack liquids in small containers or separate them at security.
