Luxury and Immersive Experiences: Viking Welcomes Scandinavian-Style River Ship

Viking welcomes the 190-guest Viking Eldir, a sleek new Longship offering luxury European river itineraries with modern design and immersive experiences. "We proudly bring our guests closer to destinations along the great rivers of the world"

Viking, the "global leader in experiential travel with a fleet of more than 100 ships, exploring 21 rivers, five oceans and all seven continents," has welcomed its newest addition to the river fleet, the Viking Eldir.

The 190-guest Viking Longship was built at Meye r Neptun Werft in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, and it will sail on one of Europe’s most popular river itineraries along the Rhine, Main, and Danube, joining a growing fleet of sister ships designed for comfort, style, and immersive travel experiences.

Viking Eldir Highlights

The Viking Eldir will accommodate up to 190 guests across 95 staterooms, all featuring the elegant, eye-catching Scandinavian design that the award-winning brand is known for. Built specifically for Europe’s major rivers, the ship includes three full decks, an indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, asymmetric corridors, and true two-room suites. Plus, the design includes a space-saving square bow meant to enhance navigation capabilities while offering passengers comfort and style.

Guests on board can enjoy a wide range of itineraries, including Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Passage to Eastern Europe, European Sojourn, and Christmas on the Rhine

Viking continues to invest in long-term growth across river, ocean, and expedition travel. The company plans to take delivery of 22 additional river ships by 2028, 10 more ocean ships by 2031, and two expedition vessels by 2031. With these additions, Viking aims to operate 112 river ships by 2028 and 25 ocean and expedition ships by 2031, maintaining its position as a leader in experiential travel.
