San José Mineta International Airport rolls out new AI-powered humanoid robot designed to assist passengers in real time.
Meet José, Silicon Valley's New AI Robot That Knows 50 Languages
The robot, named “José,” has been developed by Silicon Valley startup IntBot and will be tested at Terminal B near Gate 24. For the time being, the robot can greet travelers, answer their questions, and provide airport information in more than 50 languages.
The four-month pilot is part of broader efforts to improve passenger experience through emerging technology, explain airport officials.
“With IntBot, travelers will receive clear directions and real-time updates,” said San José Mayor Matt Mahan, noting the airport is expecting a significant rise in international visitors, including for upcoming major events.
Mookie Patel, director of aviation at San José Mineta International Airport: “San José sits at the center of global innovation, and our Airport is a natural place to introduce technologies that are shaping the future. By piloting IntBot, we’re exploring how artificial intelligence can enhance the passenger journey while reinforcing SJC’s role as the gateway to Silicon Valley.”
Lei Yang, CEO of IntBot: “At IntBot, we are defining the category of social intelligence for physical AI, building the foundational layer that enables robots to understand human intent, context, and behavior in real-world environments.”
City and airport leaders say the project reflects San José’s position at the center of global innovation, while giving startups a real-world testing ground for advanced AI systems.
