United Airlines announced today (April 3, 2026) the launch of a new tiered fare structure, designed to expand passenger choices and better tailor the flight experience to their preferences.

As part of the move, the company will now allow customers to choose between three new fare categories in premium classes on long-haul flights and domestic flights in the US: basic, standard, and flexible. These categories join the existing structure in the economy class, where similar fares are already applicable.

The basic fare will be the lowest price, while the standard fare will include benefits such as free seat selection, extra baggage and the ability to make changes. The flexible fare will allow a full refund alongside all the benefits of the standard fare.

Additionally, on select flights, the class will be rebranded as United Polaris, offering passengers access to Polaris lounges, depending on the type of ticket purchased. Passengers who choose the higher fares will also enjoy access to these lounges, while those on the basic fare will be granted access to the United Club lounges.

The company has also updated its booking interfaces on its website and app to more clearly reflect the differences between fares. The rollout is expected to begin this month in select markets, with additional destinations to follow later this year.

Andrew Nocella, chief commercial officer at United: "These new tiered options give customers more choice and make it easier to find a fare that includes the benefits they want most, whether that's a great value, added perks, or maximum flexibility."
