A short time ago, the US Embassy in Bahrain issued an unusual security update for American citizens staying in the country, amid the tense situation in the Middle East.
The announcement stated that American authorities are closely monitoring developments and are updating them regularly, with an emphasis on maintaining the safety of US citizens.
According to the guidelines, citizens wishing to leave the area can use up-to-date information provided by the State Department regarding exit options, including commercial flights.
However, those who choose to stay are asked to prepare for an extended stay in a safe place, to stock up on food, water, medicine, and essential equipment, and to obey the instructions of local authorities.
It was also reported that the US Embassy in Manama has instructed all of its employees to shelter in protected buildings until further notice, and has recommended that all American citizens in the country do the same and stay away from windows and exposed areas.
The announcement also noted that there are threats from Iran and militias affiliated with it, which may target, among other things, American academic institutions in Bahrain and the region.
In addition, all routine consular services at the embassy have been suspended, except for urgent cases.
Citizens were urged to follow current updates, beware of fraud attempts, and contact the embassy in the event of an emergency.
