American Airlines marked the 100th anniversary of its maiden flight on April 15, 1926. The DH-4 aircraft took off from Chicago for St. Louis, carrying only mail as part of the Robertson Aircraft Corporation's operations. That flight is considered the historic starting point from which one of the world's largest and most prominent airlines later developed.
The company notes that, throughout its hundred years of operation, it has passed through a series of key milestones in the development of civil aviation, including the first passenger flights on Douglas DC-3 aircraft between Chicago and New York, the transition to the jet age with the introduction of Boeing 707 aircraft, and the establishment of the operating model of central aviation hubs.
Celebrations All Month Long
To mark the milestone, American announced it would hold a series of events for customers and employees throughout the month at several U.S. airports, including Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington.
The company announced that passengers on the 100th scheduled flight of the day at each destination will participate in a celebratory event that combines a tribute to the company's history with a glimpse of the brand's future.
In addition, throughout the month, the Flagship and Admirals Club lounges will offer special cocktails and light dishes inspired by culinary trends that have characterized the last hundred years.
Additional special celebrations will take place at New York's JFK Airport and St. Louis Airport. Among other things, Flight 100 to London will be operated by an N735AT aircraft bearing the "Flagship DFW" livery, while Flight 1926 on the Chicago to St. Louis return route will be operated in a special livery to celebrate the airline's centennial.

American also announced that it has unveiled specially designed centennial trading cards, which will be available exclusively through the company's pilots starting in May.
