At least eight children between the ages of one and 13 were killed. According to a police statement, the incident was the result of a family dispute, with at least 10 people injured by gunfire.
According to local police, the large-scale incident involved several locations, while local officials noted that the complex incident spanned several buildings.
The initial investigation indicated that the shooting occurred shortly after 6:00 AM, and that all of the victims are minors. Police noted that some of the children who were murdered are members of the suspect's family.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and hijacked a car near the scene. Patrol officers began a pursuit that continued into the nearby Boujir district, where he was shot dead by police. It is believed the suspect acted alone, and there are no other suspects involved in the shooting.
The police asked for patience from the public and announced that additional details, including the names of the victims and the suspect, will be released after family members are informed and official identification is completed.
