The Dominican Republic's main natural disaster response authority that that coordinates risk management, emergency response, and public alerts, the Emergency Operations Center (COE), has issued a red alert for the provinces of Puerto Plata and Espaillat. The highest level of warning is due to strong storms, heavy rains and a real risk of flooding, landslides and traffic disruptions.

In addition, the authorities issued a yellow alert in seven additional districts, indicating increased risk, and a green alert in 12 additional districts and the capital district, which means monitoring and preparation.

Authorities urged residents and tourists to avoid traveling in flooded areas, not to cross bridges, and to stay away from water sources until the storm passes.

The U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic advises nationals to call 809-567-7775 for emergency assistance.
