International Holocaust Memorial Day was solemnly observed worldwide yesterday. The European Commission building in Brussels was illuminated with special lighting displaying the message "We Remember", alongside an illustration of a candle, honoring the victims of the Holocaust.
This year holds special significance as it marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the infamous Nazi concentration and extermination camp. Around the globe, Jewish museums and community centers are hosting memorial ceremonies, while parliaments conduct special sessions to commemorate this solemn occasion.
On this day, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen shared a poignant message on her Twitter (X) account:
"On International Holocaust Memorial Day, we mark 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. We will never forget the 6 million Jews murdered in cold blood and all the Holocaust victims. As the last survivors are disappearing, it is our duty as Europeans to remember the unspeakable crimes and honor the memories of the victims".

EL AL and the Foundation for the Welfare of Holocaust Victims have launched a special digital campaign to raise awareness further and honor the memory of those who perished.
