In a series of updates shared on X, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has recently confirmed that it has been closely monitoring jet fuel availability across the country. Despite the current disruption, officials stressed that there is currently no shortage affecting UK airlines.

“Since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, we have been closely monitoring UK jet fuel stocks,” the department said. “We are working with airlines, airports and fuel suppliers to ensure passengers keep moving and businesses are supported.”

Authorities went on to say that jet fuel is typically purchased in advance, with airports maintaining reserves to ensure ongoing operations. This buffer, they noted, is helping to stabilize supply even amid external pressures.

Crucially for travelers, the government emphasized that airlines are not reporting any immediate issues. “UK airlines are clear that they are not currently seeing a shortage of jet fuel,” the statement added.

Passengers have also been advised that their travel plans do not need to change at this stage. “Your travel plans don't need to change. We are working hand-in-hand with industry to help flights keep operating,” the department said.

However, the government also reminded passengers of their rights in case of disruption (UK261).

Travelers may be entitled to a full refund or an alternative flight if their journey falls under specific criteria, including departures from UK airports or arrivals operated by UK or EU carriers.

The situation remains under close observation as global markets react to the closure of one of the world’s most important energy corridors.
