On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Italian flag carrier ITA Airways inaugurated new direct route between Rome Fiumicino Airport and Houston, marking a further expansion of the company's operations into the American market.

This is the first direct flight connecting the two cities, and is the implementation of a plan we reported on in January, when the future route was presented as part of the strategy for expanding the international network.

Houston is considered one of the global centers in the fields of energy, industry and innovation, and the new line is expected to meet growing demand from both business travelers and tourists.

The Rome Airports Authority notes that this is the first flight of its kind, as part of a move designed to strengthen economic, cultural, and industrial ties between Italy and the United States.

To mark the launch of the line, festive events were held at both Rome's Fiumicino Airport and Houston George Bush International Airport, marking the beginning of a new direct connection between the destinations.
