A previously announced in December 2025, Polish airline LOT has expanded its operations from Gdansk, one of the lesser-known but intriguing cities in Northern Europe, with the launch of three new direct routes to Oslo, Bergen, and Brussels.

The first flights have already taken off, marking another stage in Gdansk's development as an important air gateway in northern Poland. For many travelers, this is a city that is not yet the center of tourist attention, but moves like this could quickly change that.

The new routes connect Gdansk to three major European hubs, two leading cities in Norway, Oslo and Bergen, as well as the Belgian capital, Brussels. The new destinations offer convenient connections for both business and leisure travelers, and strengthen the region's connectivity to important economic and cultural centers.

LOT notes that the move is intended to respond to the growing demand for direct flights from northern Poland and to strengthen Gdansk's position as a central part of the company's network. In addition, the new routes are expected to facilitate passenger traffic between the countries and deepen regional ties.

For residents of the Pomerania region, this is a significant upgrade in air accessibility, with the ability to reach major European destinations directly without a connection. On the other hand, travelers from Europe gain easier access to the Baltic Sea coast and one of Poland's developing cities.

Gdansk itself is much more than a “roadside” city. It is one of Poland’s most historic and impressive cities, having played a central role in European history. The city is considered the cradle of the “Solidarity” movement, which led to dramatic political changes in Eastern Europe, and it combines a rich historical past with an impressive modern renewal.

Gdańsk's ancient streets, led by Długa Street, offer colorful Hanseatic architecture, alongside impressive squares, cutting-edge museums, and a vibrant cultural life. The city is located on the shores of the Baltic Sea and is part of the "Tri-City" metropolis along with Sopot and Gdynia, an area that combines beaches, nightlife, restaurants, and culture.

In recent years, Gdansk has experienced accelerated economic growth, especially in technology, logistics, and maritime trade, and is gradually becoming a center of attraction for both investors and tourists seeking an authentic, less crowded, and great-value European destination.

LOT's move reflects a broader trend in the European aviation market, strengthening direct routes from secondary cities and turning them into significant regional gateways, alongside the larger, more well-known cities.
