Hostage Situation at Volksbank in Germany Ends with Perpetrators Fleeing the Scene

This morning at approximately 9:00 a.m., Koblenz Police in Germany were informed of a hostage situation at a Volksbank branch in downtown Sinzig. Extensive operations were initiated. Latest update: special forces entered the bank, two people were rescued unharmed, perpetrators fled the scene

On the morning of May 8, 20206, at approximately 9:00 a.m. ocal hour, Koblenz Police in Germany received information on an ongoing hostage situation at a Volksbank branch in downtown Sinzig

Koblenz Police then informed the public of "multiple perpetrators and hostages inside the bank", with one of the hostages being the driver of a cash transport van.

"Extensive cordoning-off measures were also implemented as part of the operation," with no immediate danger to citizens who are outside the cordoned-off area.

According to the latest police update, special forces have entered the bank and the residential units inside the building in Sinzig and searched for potential perpetrators.

"Two people were rescued unharmed from a locked room. It now appears that the perpetrator(s) fled the scene immediately after locking the individuals in the vault, by an as yet unknown route."

"The police make it clear that the protection of potential victims has been their top priority from the very beginning of the situation."
