Another norovirus outbreak on a Princess Cruises ship: the CDC has informed the public of a new Norovirus outbreak on the Caribbean Princess ship.
The outbreak has affected over 100 passengers during a 13-night Southern Caribbean voyage, which departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 28, 2026, and is scheduled to end on May 11, 2026.
Illness Spread Among Passengers and Crew
Health reports confirm that 102 of 3,116 passengers (3.3%) and 13 of 1,131 crew members (1.2%) reported gastrointestinal illness symptoms during the voyage. The predominant symptoms included vomiting and diarrhea, consistent with norovirus infection.
Norovirus is a highly contagious virus known for causing outbreaks on cruise ships due to close living conditions and shared facilities.
In response to the outbreak, Princess Cruises and the ship’s crew implemented a series of enhanced health and sanitation procedures in line with outbreak protocols. These measures included:
- Increased cleaning and disinfection across high-touch areas
- Isolation of affected passengers and crew members
- Collection of stool samples from symptomatic individuals for laboratory testing
- Coordination with the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program for guidance and reporting
The CDC confirmed that it is conducting a field response, which includes an environmental assessment and outbreak investigation to support containment efforts onboard.
